What perseverance means (and doesn’t mean)

What perseverance means (and doesn’t mean)

“Keep going”, they say.

“Don’t give up”, we’re told.

There’s no doubt perseverance is vital for achieving many of the meaningful and longer-term goals we wish to achieve.

But there’s also no doubt perseverance is often misunderstood.

Perseverance DOES MEAN, in colloquial terms, to keep going, to persist in the face of adversity or obstacles, to continue on until the end.

But perseverance DOES NOT MEAN we can’t pause and take breaks, rest, or ask for help (or even, at times, to recognise that the right thing to do is to give up and/or let go).

So, by all means, stick at it until you reach your goals but … make sure your goals are relevant, STILL relevant and appropriate, and make sure you take care of yourself along the way.
