7 ways to turn your home into a health retreat

The context in which we live and work affects our health and happiness; although we all need to make the right choices, at the right times, we can boost our chances of doing this more often by setting up our environment to support and reinforce desirable behaviours.

With this in mind, check out this interesting article by Jess Ainscough…

When people ask me how I have managed to last so long on Gerson Therapy — a strict regime of juicing, coffee enemas, and eating only food we have prepared ourselves —  I say that I think of it kind of like an extended stay at a health retreat. I may have been pretty much house bound for the past two years while healing myself from cancer, but at least I’ve done it in style. For both functional and pleasurable reasons, we have quite literally turned our home into a health retreat.

Here are some ways you can do the same:

1. Create a meditation room

A sacred space where you can retreat to spend time in stillness, silence, and solitude is the best way to invite some of that “health retreat” peacefulness into your home. It will also make it easier for you to stick to your promises of cultivating a beneficial meditation practice. Clear out a room (or corner of the house if you don’t have extra rooms), add meditation cushions or stools, throw in some blankets, create an alter adorned with candles, crystals and angel cards, and you’ve got yourself one sweet space to get your OM on.

2. Zen out your bedroom

Clear all of the clutter to promote peace and calming. Bring in some lamps so that you can dim the lights at night and prepare your mind for sleep. Remove all electrical items from the room so that EMFs and dirty electricity aren’t interfering with your sleep. Your body is doing the majority of its healing while you slumber – honour that by making your bedroom the healthiest room in the house.

3. Invest in a juicer and a blender

Whether you’re doing an official “cleanse”  or you just want to inject some healthy into your day, juices and smoothies are a must. To make these you will, of course, need the appropriate equipment. Go here for a free e-book containing 80 green smoothie recipes to get you started…
