Bringing your strengths to work (and to all aspects of life)

Bringing your strengths to work (and to all aspects of life)

How many people really think they’re able to bring their best selves to work?

According to research, it’s only about 20%!

How incredibly sad is that? And what an enormous waste of talent and abilities?

But it need not be like this. More of us can bring more of our best selves to work, and to every aspect of life; and it’s not overly complicated or difficult. Further, doing so benefits you, and all those around you!

Acknowledging that this will differ a lot for different people in different contexts (e.g., the workplace, the home and/or family etc), all we really need to do is:

  1. Become more aware of our strengths
  2. And then find relevant and appropriate ways to use them more often
  3. Plus, it would also be fantastically helpful to make an effort to be more aware of other people’s strengths, and consider how you can best work with them and these attributes

If you’re not currently aware of your strengths there are several options available; the best, in my opinion, is the VIA Signature Strengths Survey. Just search for that and take their free option.

And then, set aside some time each and every day to use your strengths in ways that would make your job more enjoyable, more satisfying, easier and / or more efficient.
