12 Sep Where to start when you don’t know where to start
I try to write something here, on this happiness blog, every day.
Sometimes I share articles I think readers will find interesting and/or helpful. Sometimes, more and more so, I write something myself.
Not surprisingly, my focus is on content that’s relevant to those interested in happiness and mental health, psychology and positive psychology and self-help or self-development more generally.
So, there’s no shortage of topics to cover or questions to respond to.
But as I shift my focus to creating more of my own articles, as opposed to sharing those of others, there are definitely times I wonder if I’ve anything of value to say.
So much has already been written about how to be happy, or happier, and so much is already known about happiness or overcoming stress and depression.
I don’t mind repeating some of this because we can all do with reminders; but still, there are days when I’m just not sure how to start.
The reason I’m sharing this is because I don’t think my problem is just about writing a happiness blog; or even writing or blogging more broadly.
I think we all have times when we know we should be doing something but we struggle to take that first step.
But therein lies the answer. Just take that first step. Any step, In any direction.
It might not, ultimately, be the right step but that doesn’t really matter. Because more likely than not, that step will lead to another step which will propel you forward to somewhere that’s eventually, an accomplishment of sorts.
You see, to many of us wait until we’re motivated. But I think that’s the wrong approach.
We need to move to create motivation; motion creates motivation. Doing something, almost anything, will create the energy and inspiration you want and need to do what you want or need to do!
So, there it is. If you don’t know where to start then … just start! And use that start to build positive momentum in any way that works for you.
