11 Mar Life Lessons from the Strangest Places (Post 2)
Today’s life lesson comes from two legends of the music/performance/arts world … David Bowie and Lady Gaga.
And let me make two things clear from the outset … (1) you don’t necessarily need to like their music to appreciate this post AND (2) there are MANY other artists and famous people who could be included in this message.
Anyway, with that out of the way, today’s life lesson is relatively simple. And that is …
You don’t have to stay the same; you can reinvent yourself any time you like and as many times as you like.
Bowie and Gaga are incredible examples of this. Both of them changed their “stage personalities” multiple times, and the latter has even morphed from a singer to actor in recent years.
We can all do this (or some version of it)!
Why do so many people think they have to stay the same? Too many people are what psychologists might call “trait theorists”. That is, they believe they are a certain way, because they were born a certain way, and that’s the way they’ll stay forever.
But it need not be like that. I’m not saying you have to change; but I am saying you can if you want to. I’m not saying it’s easy; but I am saying it’s possible.
Just because you’ve had a job for a certain number of years, dressed a certain way since you were younger, liked certain foods or even music (or … I could go on and on) DOESN’T MEAN you need to keep living like that forever.
What one small thing could you change? What one small change might generate more happiness or joy or excitement or success?
Think about it; make a plan; try something new and then … build on that!
