If you’re feeling lost, it really is OK. If you’re not, you may not be living enough!

If you’re feeling lost, it really is OK. If you’re not, you may not be living enough!

I stumbled upon this article today in Psychology Today.

It tells the personal story of the author, but also the story of The Legend of The Phoenix.

Or, if you want to the short version, here’s a key paragraph:

In many mythologies (such as Egyptian, Arabian, and Greek) there is a story of this magnificent bird—the Phoenix—which provides a symbol of renewal and rebirth. The massive bird, with wings spanning across the sky, is said to live a long life, sometimes extending hundreds of years. Then at some point, the Phoenix builds a nest of spices and twigs. And with great solemnity, she ignites this nest, engulfing herself in the flames of her own making. After some time, from the ashes of her fiery demise, a new Phoenix emerges, born anew and radiant as ever.

The author includes this story as part of her story of … being lost. And not surprisingly it reminded me of my latest book, “Lost & Found: how to wander your way to a better life” (available via Amazon, Dymocks online, most good bookstores AND ALSO Audible).

She writes about how, due to a number of factors, she’s felt lost in her life in recent years; but also, about how that’s OK.

Which is exactly what I write about in “Lost & Found”. But I go further, and cite research supporting the notion that it’s not just OK to feel lost, it’s good for us. It’s an indication we’re trying new things and more often than not, an opportunity to learn and grow and to become better.

For many of us, this year that’s almost finished, and in fact these last few years of tumultuous global events, has/have been unsettling. Many of us have lost our bearings, and as a result, feel lost and unsure.

I know very well how hard this can be; but I also know that you can “use” these feelings and experiences to “find” something new, something different, and hopefully something better!

So, here’s to finding yourself and your happiness in 2025. Here’s to finding joy and contentment. Here’s to finding peace and friendships and … whatever you want and need in the New Year.
