It can be hard, but you can do hard things

I know it can be hard, and I know you’re probably very busy, but there is a better way to live than the way most of us are living right now.

This could refer to many aspects of life, but today I’m referring to the way we think about the world (including the people in the world; those all over and those next door).

The easy option is to consume news, or increasingly these days, information fed out through social media.

If you do this, you’re most likely to think that everything’s pretty much … sh#t!

Now, I’m not saying things are perfect and I’m also not about to talk about “fake new” but … things aren’t nearly as sh#t as they might first appear.

There’s no doubt there are some very real problems in the world, and in our local communities; many of our concerns are valid and deserving of our anxiety.

At the same time, however, there’s tremendous progress being made in many areas of life; gains being made in environmental domains, educational improvements and reductions in poverty, even, believe it or not, reducing levels of crime in most countries around the world!

It’s rare, however, to see this reported as part of the “normal” news. But there are news’ sources who do write about these, and other inspirational topics. You just need to search a bit harder for it.

And so here’s your challenge … head on over to your favourite search engine and enter “good news” or “positive news” and see what you find. Similarly, search for something similar, or for “inspiration” or “feel good” on your preferred social media platforms and then follow more positive pages whilst also unfollowing or blocking any pages that just exacerbate your anxiety or anger (maybe, even, spend less time or even considering quitting social media all together!)

It might seem like it’ll take a bit of effort to find and then follow these positive news sources; and the fact is it will. But I can guarantee that it will pay enormous dividends, in terms of LESS distress and MORE hope and positivity.

Is that a price worthy paying? I think so!
