What do you do when you’re feeling happy?

What do you do when you’re feeling happy?

I’m feeling good today!

That might not seem like such a significant thing for some of you, but for me, who lives with depression and anxiety, it’s not as common as it is for some and not as common as I’d like.

For those like me for whom happiness doesn’t really come that easy, it’s important to consider what you do when it does come.

Many I’ve talked to brush it off, pretending it’s not real or they deny themselves the pleasure because they feel they don’t deserve it. Others immediately start to think about when it will go, and when the darker moods will return!

These, or any similar reactions, simple don’t help. All they do is exacerbate depression and low moods.

So what can you do instead?

Celebrate the good times; savour the joys and pleasures, even the small ones. Share your happiness with others and spread the goodness!

The more you allow yourself to feel happy the more you’ll feel happy; and the more, also, you’ll find yourself being resilient and coping.

Happiness is not just about the experience of positive emotions; it’s also about how you respond to that experience!
