A short post about … nothing!

A short post about … nothing!

This might sound strange but I’m about to write a post about … nothing.

I’m not going to suggest or recommend anything; and I’m going to invite you to respond in kind – by doing nothing.

If you’re reading this then just stop whatever you’re doing. That’s it. Pause, breathe slowly and naturally. And just sit with whatever you’re feeling without judging it or yourself and without trying to change the experience in any way.

As simple as this sounds, for many of us this can be difficult; especially if what we’re trying to sit with is unpleasant.

For most of us, our immediate reaction to distress is to do something, to try to fix something, to seek relief or at the very least, to distract from that which is painful.

But try NOT to do that. Try not to do anything!

Try to just let it be … and what you should notice, with some time, is that the experience will change on it’s own.

And that’s the whole point of this simple (but not always easy) exercise. This too shall pass. Everything (even unpleasant emotions) are impermanent. Pain fades and positive emotions like happiness can and will return.
