What you do when you feel like doing nothing … really matters!

What you do when you feel like doing nothing … really matters!

We all have ups and downs, days when we’re more motivated and energised than others.

Some days, it really is easy to get up and exercise, or do whatever you want to do, then get on with work or chores or … live the good life you want to live.

Other days, it’s not so easy. And it’s these days that are really important!

Doing what makes you happy and healthy, working towards success and accomplishment, is easy when you’re feeling good.

Doing at least something of value, on the hard days, is just as if not more important because that can determine the extent to which you fall down, and spiral down, and undo some of your happiness and wellbeing, or whether you stay afloat, keep your head above water, recognise that it’s OK not to feel great all the time but still do something that’s useful.

This is where your habits come in. This is not, as many think, where motivation comes in but rather, where you find out who you really are and what you really do regardless of mood and motivation.

I have several things I do … just because that’s what I do.

They include meditation and exercise, journalling and gratitude practice. I don’t always feel like doing these things. But I do them because I do them.

And they don’t always pay massive dividends, they don’t often make me feel magically better, but what they do do, more often than not, is stop me slipping down, or further down into the dark recesses of depression and hopelessness.

What do you do … just because that’s what you do?

Can you develop habits for happiness (or wellbeing or success) that you practice regardless of motivation or mood?
