Take micro-steps for moments of happiness

Take micro-steps for moments of happiness

When many of us talk or think about happiness we often think about it as this big thing!

Happiness often seems like an Olympic gold medal or the prize at the end of some form of marathon.

And it can be like that; happiness can be a huge feeling that results from huge or long term effort. Happiness can come from finishing that project or winning that competition or any number of other admirable achievements that required effort and persistence.

But happiness can also be small, and tiny. Happiness can be found and experienced in a fleeting moment during the day. And this type of happiness should NOT be underestimated or undervalued.

Those moments of happiness, of calm and pleasure, that come while we’re sipping our tea or coffee, when we’re staring out the window and notice a bird soaring through the sky, when we pat our pet or chat to a friend or just laugh out loud over something silly … these moments add up and accumulate and should be savoured and treasured for what they are. Because they are beautiful and wonderful moments of LIFE!

These thoughts are partly about living in and enjoying the moment. Which as I’m sure most of you would know is important for happiness and wellbeing.

But these thoughts are also about remembering that you don’t always need to do BIG things or strive for BIG emotions. You can, but you can also take tiny, micro steps that will bring about small, but important positive emotions from within the happiness family. Emotions like joy and contentment and connection and more.

So, take the big steps when you can and / or when it’s relevant. But don’t neglect to take the little steps also, which by definition are easier to take more frequently and therefore, provide more frequent bang for buck on a daily basis.
