As one year ends and another approaches, it’s ok …

I’m writing this on December 29, 2023. Depending on when you read it we’ll either be finishing up the year or possibly, starting a new one! For many people, this is a time of happiness and excitement, a time of reflection and/or resolution and/or determination … and maybe some regret.

It’s the last of these upon which I want to focus today. And in short, I want to remind you that happiness is NOT perfection; happiness is NOT having everything; happiness is NOT absolute clarity and as such, it’s OK if …

  • you didn’t achieve all you set out to achieve in 2023
  • you’re not even sure what you want to achieve in 2024
  • you didn’t run a marathon or climb a mountain
  • you ate a few too many of those favourite treats
  • you had (and continue to have) negative thoughts
  • you struggled to find hope at times
  • you felt down and lonely at times
  • you argued with friends and weren’t able to make up
  • you lost touch with friends or family memebers
  • you were hyper-aware of your faults and failings some days
  • you didn’t laugh or smile or have as much fun as you would have liked

All these things are OK for many reasons but one of which is that … you’ll have many more opportunities to address or resolve these things, to accept them, to make changes or to do whatever you want or need to do for more happiness tomorrow, or next week, or next year, or any time you have the resolve and energy to try again. You can always try again. And that’s why it’s all OK.
