19 Dec A few end of year facts
It’s the end of another year; or very close to it, anyway. And at this time of year there are wonders and worries, joys and, well, challenges. So here are a few thoughts and facts for you to consider:
- You’ll undoubtedly see, on social media, annual summaries of other people’s successes. Just remember, their highlight’s reels should NOT be compared to your blooper’s reels and their highlight’s reels are not completely accurate representations of ALL of their lives
- You’ll be invited to do lots of things. It’s OK to say “no”.
- You might not be invited to some things; that’s OK. Do what you can with whom you can when you so choose.
- You’ll have to spend time with people whose company you otherwise might not choose. Breathe, observe without absorbing, and remind yourself that this too shall pass.
- You might feel overwhelmed. Take things one step at a time.
- You might feel underwhelmed. It is what it is; make it what you want it to be.
- You might feel rushed to do more than you’re able. Just do what you can. What doesn’t get done can wait.
- December 31 is not the end of anything. January 1 can be the start of everything. Ultimately, these are just two days in the tens of thousands that make up your life.
I could go on but the point is, it’ll all be OK. You’ve survived every Xmas, festive season, New Year so far and you’ll survive this one too. Who knows, maybe you’ll even enjoy this one and find happiness within acceptance and self-compassion?!?!
