20 Oct What to do when you feel like there’s nothing you can do!
I assume I’m not alone in feeling, at times, like there’s nothing I can do that will help.
Whether it’s personal or professional or global events, sometimes things just seem hopeless.
And if or when we feel hopeless, we can become paralysed, do nothing, which essentially ensures we don’t do anything useful.
A self-fulfilling prophecy!
But, the reality is there’s ALWAYS something we can do and as incongruent as it might seem, just knowing this is the first thing that can help us take some form of positive or constructive action.
So, know that there are always options; that there are always steps you can take to make a difference or at the very least, to create some momentum to then make a difference.
And what then?
Well, try anything, literally anything. Again, doing something can inspire you to do something useful.
Alternatively, do nothing, but do nothing in a way that involves reflection or meditation upon what’s going on and/or how you can accept it (which is actually doing something) or even, how you can bring about some change.
Another option is to get someone else to do something, or to suggest something. So, reach out and ask for help, talk to someone and ask for ideas. Even if YOU feel you can’t do anything, others might think and feel differently.
Finally, don’t do anything NOW but make an “appointment” with yourself to do something later, in an hour or a day or a week or whenever’s appropriate. Now might seem overwhelming but … this too shall pass, and with the passing of “this” comes, more often than not, new ways of feeling and thinking.
