Make that which is important, that which you JUST DO!

Make that which is important, that which you JUST DO!

I’ve written before about what I call “the knowing-doing gap”.

That’s the gap between what we “know” we should do and what we actually do! Unfortunately, for many people, this gap can be significant. And as a result, it means many people don’t enjoy nearly as much happiness or success in life as they could.

But it need not be like this. There are ways to bridge that gap and as such, live a happier and better life. Like most things, it’s easier said than done; but it is possible. And here’s one way to make it happen.

In short, take away the decision making process! That’s right. Don’t allow yourself NOT to do that thing (exercise, meditate, call that family member or friend or whatever). Instead, make it JUST WHAT YOU DO.

Many of us already use this strategy. We don’t necessarily think about whether we’ll shower, or brush our teeth. We just do it!

So what if we could apply the same approach to whatever strategies we believe will boost our happiness and/or wellbeing? Because we can. And if we do so, we’ll reap the rewards.

So, to begin with, work out what you need to do to live happier and better or to achieve whatever goals are important to you.

Then, work out what time and place would be best to do them. And then, remove any and all obstacles that might get in the way!

Now, don’t think about it. Don’t question it. Don’t even ask yourself whether or not you’ll do “this thing” today or tomorrow or whenever. You just do it. Because that’s what you do; and that’s who you are.

Again, I know this is easier said than done but I also know … It can work. And it can be highly effective. And it can bring about more happiness and health and accordingly, a better life more often.
