20 Sep My 3 prompt system for journalling and/or reflection
I journal every day; first thing most mornings to be specific.
I also spend a lot of time reflecting on my life, how I’m feeling and what I could do better.
I might actually spend TOO MUCH time doing this!
But more often than not, I find it extremely helpful. Which is not a huge surprise at all, because research clearly shows that there are many benefits to all the related activities such as journalling, expressive writing, gratitude practice, mindfulness, meditation and other forms of self-reflection.
Although I usually journal at my desk, a lot of my other or related thinking occurs when I walk. I love walking, I walk pretty much every day, and I find it very meditative.
I also find this is a time when I frequently come up with new and good ideas!
And so it was this morning, when, on my daily walk, I came up with a new, or modified series of prompts for my reflective journalling.
It’s pretty simple, really, but then … aren’t most of the best ideas simple?
Anyway, I’m quite excited about it and I thought I’d share it with you in case you wanted to give it a try also.
With no further ado, then, here it is …
Quite simply, it involves asking myself to respond to 3 simple prompts:
- I’m feeling …
- I want to feel …
- and so I need to do …
And that’s it. But within those 3 simple prompts or questions, are the bases for acceptance and change, for facing what is, but creating what I want to be.
I hope you also find this useful, and I hope this helps you find more happiness and inner peace : )
