10 ways to find happiness without doing anything!

I received an email recently from one of our regular readers and although she began by noting how much she enjoys and benefits from The Happiness Institute's regular eNewsletters and postings on Twitter and Facebook she also uttered a cry for help…

…but sometimes it's so hard and sometimes I just don't have the energy to do what I need to do to be happy!

And so, it gives me great pleasure to respond with today's post – "10 ways to find happiness without doing anything!"

  1. Breathe, slowly and evenly (you need to do this to stay alive so it doesn't really count as doing anything)

  2. Sit with whatever you're feeling and thinking – don't question it or try to change it just let it be

  3. Allow yourself time to daydream

  4. Find a nice clean window and stare out of it

  5. Put on your favourite music and listen for a few minutes (or as long as you can)

  6. Be grateful for what you have (you don't need to "do" anything, just think about things in a different way)

  7. Imagine yourself living a great life with abundant health and happiness (to make this a reality you will, eventually, need to do something but for now, just imagine)

  8. Enjoy some resting time – contemplate the benefits of even 5 minutes of "doing nothing"

  9. Smile – some might say this is doing something and they'd probably be right, but it won't take much effort at all and the benefits will make it worthwhile

  10. Next time you talk to someone really BE with them; this shouldn't require doing anything much apart from focusing on being present
