14 Jul I’d love to know your thoughts about this interesting happiness quote…
I recently discovered this interesting happiness quote…
Remember that it is nothing to do your duty, that is demanded of you and is no more meritorious than to wash your hands when they are dirty; the only thing that counts is the love of duty; when love and duty are one, then grace is in you and you will enjoy a happiness which passes all understanding.
– W. Somerset Maugham (1874 – 1965), The Painted Veil, 1925
Now, I’m not typically a big fan of “duty” but there’s something in this quote that invites me to think of character and doing good etc. I’d love to know what you think and hope you’ll post some thoughts on our Facebook page (if you’re not already a “follower” then just search for the Happiness Institute and you should be able to find us).
Here’s to hearing your thoughts on happiness and duty…!
