06 Feb Is happiness infectious?
Can you ‘catch’ happiness from your friends, family and neighbours? Maybe, says one group of researchers who looked at how happiness spreads through social groups.
They found that if you have a friend who is happy and who lives within a mile, it increases your chance of happiness by 25%.
The researchers say the findings could have implications for health, since feelings of wellbeing may be linked to better health. But we need to be cautious about this type of research, because happiness levels can be affected by so many different things.
