Overcoming stress – a good rationale for promoting happiness

STRESS is costing the Australian economy $14.81 billion a year as employees fall sick from workplace demands they cannot meet.

New research shows Australian workers miss an average 3.2 working days a year because they are too stressed to function.

The Medibank Private-commissioned report found those who miss work because of stress cost employers $5.12 billion a year, but the costs of those who continue to show up for work but cannot perform under the strain is far greater.

Stress-related “presenteeism” costs the economy $9.96bn.
