HAPPY AND HEALTHY?

HAPPY LIFE: Can happiness keep you healthy? A growing body of evidence supports this theory. Sheldon Cohen, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, studies the effects of positive emotions and stress on health. He says the biggest effect of positive emotions on health occurs in people who experience positive emotions as a typical part of their personality, rather than in people who are just experiencing momentary positive emotions. He says people who are typically positive will report less chronic illness, symptoms and pain. Other studies have shown elderly adults who live in more positive surroundings, like on their own or with family, will live longer than people living in retirement homes.
