09 Aug Work happiness
Corporate managers and senior officials are the happiest at work, according to a survey by Bath University.
Hairdressers, health and social service managers, personal services occupations and managers in distribution and retail made up the top five.
Doctors and other health professionals were 13th, lawyers 44th and journalists 50th. However, the unhappiest of the bunch were welders.
The poll found that being well paid was just one factor of being happy, along with supportive colleagues and being able to express yourself on the job.
Research leader Prof Michael Rose says: “The most important factor for job satisfaction in the survey is the managerial skill in creating a sense of involvement.”
