Machine built to spread happiness

We all like being told nice things, so passers-by in an American city will be extra happy, as an artist has installed a machine there to hand out praise.

The red and white striped box in Washington plays random friendly messages to people as they walk past, in an effort to get them to be nicer.

The compliments range from saying you smell nice to telling you people are drawn to your personality.

It’s hoped that more compliment boxes will be installed throughout the city.

Artist Tom Greaves admits the random compliments might mean people hear something they don’t reckon is true.

“Maybe you get one that really doesn’t apply to you but maybe it aspires you to be more like the compliment,” he said.
