Happiness and fluctuating fortunes

Happiness and fluctuating fortunes

Just a short note…

…today I had planned to spend much of my time writing (my third book, Raising Happy Children). Although I’ve added some words to my happiness text, and although I’ve completed a number of other tasks associated with my many responsibilities at The Happiness Institute, I’ve probably not achieved as much as I would have liked to.

Being relatively goal-directed and outcome-focused this is difficult for me and not something that enhances my happiness levels. But, I have, over the years, come to realise that we all experience fluctuating fortunes at times. This means there are days we’ll get more done than others; there will always be times when more things go our way (and other times when things don’t seem to go our way); there’ll be good and bad times, easier and harder times.

Happiness is, I believe, expecting and accepting these ups and downs for what they are…simply ups and downs.

So on that note, I’m going to allow some happiness into my life now by now being overly hard on myself or judgemental for what I have (or have not) achieved. I hope you can do the same and as always, I look forward to hearing your happiness related thoughts on this and similar happiness topics…
