07 Jun Happiness is doing good deeds
This morning I went out of my way to attend an event for a friend/relative or mine. It was slightly inconvenient, and meant getting into work late, but in this instance I determined that putting myself out was certainly worthwhile…and now I think I’m experiencing happiness as a result.
As I’ve often said, happiness is not a selfish or solo pursuit but rather, happiness involves doing good deeds for others. Whether it’s putting yourself out to help someone, being generous, sharing love or whatever, happiness comes to those who give.
And on this topic, I recently received a copy of a new book written by one of my new e-acquaintences (a North American academic I’ve “met” via email). It’s by Stephen Post and is titled “Why good things happen to good people”. I’ve yet to read it but the premise is that happiness and longevity come to those who engage in good deeds.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you once I’ve read this exciting new book and also, to reading your thoughts on this aspect of happiness.
