10 Jan Happiness at work is flexibility
New research suggests that Australian workers would prefer to work longer hours for a longer weekend. More than half the respondents to a survey of over 1000 people said they’d work 4, 10 hour days if they could have a three day weekend. Even more than this, 82%, said they’d leave their jobs if they could gain more flexibility.
The verdict is quite clear – people value their happiness and see work as only part of their lives. Most want happiness at work but they also want the ability to enjoy happiness in other domains.
It’s also clear that employers better start paying attention if they want to keep staff and keep their staff happy because otherwise, they’ll loose out to competitors when it comes to attracting and retaining employees (and that’s not good for anyone’s happiness).
