5 quick, slightly less obvious habits for happiness

5 quick, slightly less obvious habits for happiness

So, this morning I did a few things that were a bit out of my usual routine.

Which was great.

Although I didn’t do anything obviously happiness inducing or massively satisfying, I feel content and happy right now.

As such, I’ve been reflecting on what I did with a view to learning what I could do more of and I thought I’d share some of my conclusions with you here …

  1. help other people. This might be obvious to some but it’s still a massively underrated and underutilised strategy for happiness and wellbeing. If you want to feel good, do good
  2. do something different. Go to a different care, eat something different for lunch, walk in an area you don’t usually visit, break out of your normal routine. Comfort is great, and easy, but discomfort and facing “the new” is another happiness booster who’s value is too often underestimated
  3. Learn or at least consider something new and different. Read a book or article on something about which you know little, listen to a podcast or interview from someone with a different perspective to you or who’s expert in a topic with which you’re unfamiliar. Intellectual stimulation and the practice of curiosity can lead to a type of happiness many of us ignore
  4. Wander without purpose. Setting and working towards meaningful goals is great, but so too is … aimless wandering, going where you don’t know the destination. Feeling lost and unsure isn’t always a bad thing
  5. And connect or reconnect with someone about whom you care. Again, this might be obvious to some but if there’s one thing that can be guaranteed to enhance happiness and wellbeing it’s connection, the fostering and developing of positive relationships

So, there you have it. A few lessons from my morning that I hope help you live a happier and better life in some small way : )
